Onion Chutney
A flavorful and slightly sweet chutney made with caramelized onions, dried red chilies, and tamarind, perfect for pairing with dosa, idli, or rice.
Ingredients
For Chutney:
- 2 tablespoon oil
- 3 medium onions sliced
- 2 dry red chilies
- 1 teaspoon tamarind paste
- ½ teaspoon salt adjust to taste
For Tempering:
- 1 teaspoon oil
- ½ teaspoon mustard seeds
- ½ teaspoon urad dal
- 1 dry red chilies
- 5-6 curry leaves
Instructions
Cook the Onions:
- Heat 2 tablespoon oil in a pan. Add 3 medium onions and sauté until golden brown.
- Add 2 dry red chilies and cook for another 1 minute. Allow to cool slightly.
Blend the Chutney:
- Transfer the onion mixture to a blender. Add 1 teaspoon tamarind paste and ½ teaspoon salt. Blend into a smooth paste.
Prepare the Tempering:
- Heat 1 teaspoon oil in a small pan. Add ½ teaspoon mustard seeds and let them crackle. Add ½ teaspoon urad dal, 1 dry red chilies, and 5-6 curry leaves. Sauté for 15 seconds.
Combine and Serve:
- Pour the prepared tempering over the chutney. Serve with dosa, idli, or rice.
