Channa Masala Curry
Ingredients
For cooking the beans :
- 1 cup chickpeas dried
- 3 cups water
- 2 black cardamom pods crack them open a bit
- 1 inch cinnamon
- 2 bay leaves
- 3 cloves
For the gravy:
- 2 tablespoon oil or ghee
- 1 medium onions finely chopped
- 2 medium tomatoes pureed
- 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
- 2 green chilies
- 1 tablespoon salt adjust to taste
Dry spices:
- 1 tablespoon red chili powder
- ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
For Garnish:
- 2 tablespoon fresh coriander leaves chopped
Instructions
- Cook the beans:
- Soak the 1 cup chickpeas overnight
- Add chickpeas, 3 cups water, 2 black cardamom pods, 1 inch cinnamon, 2 bay leaves, and 3 cloves to a pressure cooker. Cook for 4-5 whistles.
- Put it aside for now.
Prepare the Base:
- Heat 2 tablespoon oil in a pan. Add 1 medium onions and 2 green chilies and saute until golden brown. Add 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste and sauté for 1 minute.
Cook the Masala:
- Add 2 medium tomatoes, 1 tablespoon red chili powder, 1 teaspoon garam masala, and ½ teaspoon turmeric powder. Cook until the oil separates from the masala.
- Add cooked beans and the water to the masala. Stir well and simmer for 10-15 minutes. Add 1 tablespoon salt to taste.
Garnish and Serve:
- Garnish with 2 tablespoon fresh coriander leaves. Serve hot with rice or naan.
